Job Summary & Responsibilities:
The role of a House Officer in the Anesthesia Department involves a range of responsibilities that are crucial for the smooth operation of the department. Here are the key responsibilities and expectations for a House Officer in this role:
Peri-operative Assessment
Conducting thorough assessments of patients before and after surgery to ensure safe and effective anesthesia management.
Intra-operative Care
Providing direct care to surgical patients during procedures, ensuring their safety and comfort.
Postoperative Visit
Visiting patients after surgery to monitor recovery and address any concerns.
Skill Development
Gaining experience in airway management, vascular access, and neural blockade.
Shift Management
Working during specified hours, which may include long days, nights, and weekends, with a minimum of 2 hours per week dedicated to medical learning.
Rostered Duties
In the first six months, House Officers may be rostered to Starship for up to two weeks and Greenlane Surgical Unit for up to ten weeks.
Education and Training
Participating in formal teaching sessions and gaining experience under supervision.
